One of Bangkok's best known areas, Sukhumvit Road stretches across the
city from east to west, with many roads and streets (Sois) intersecting and
connecting to other areas of Bangkok.
Lined with a mix of hotels (Rembrandt
Hotel,
President Solitaire Executive Serviced Apartments,
Amari Boulevard Hotel ...), old local stores, restaurants serving food
from all over the globe, furniture and antique shops, it reflects the pace
of change in the city. The new BTS (Skytrain) runs right along Sukhumivit
providing easy access along its length and to other parts of the city.
The many small sois of Sukhumvit contain some of Bangkok's most famous
nightlife and party options. Nana Plaza (Soi 5 ) the raunchy Soi Cowboy (off
Asok) and the super cool Soi Thonglor (Soi 55).
Shopping
Modern shopping centres like the Emporium, (Soi 24) offer food courts,
cafes and beauty salons as well as upmarket shopping in air-conditioned
comfort. If you prefer markets, street vendors selling mostly souvenirs
operate along the central part of Sukhumvit around the main hotels during
the evening. Sukhumvit also provides excellent shopping options for
antiques, furniture and furnishings (along the main road) |
